About this sector The Government has set a
challenging agenda in its aim to create an education system that delivers ever
higher standards for all children. Plans include an expansion of free schools
and academies, more intervention in failing schools and changes to the national
curriculum and the examination system. Government reforms to higher
education and student finance come into force in 2012 and are
expected to lead to a reduction in student numbers and intense competition to
